Pogba in, Song out? + Bendtner risks fans’ wrath
November 13, 2011
Another quick one today due to international commitments (mine) and a dearth of actual news.
Again today there are lots of stories about but very few facts to back them up. A lot of them are reports reporting other reporters’ reports that were clearly made up in the first place.
The Sunday People seems to think that Manchester United’s Paul Pogba could be a target for us if he fails to sign a new contract at the end of the year but also thinks that he probably will sign a new contract at the end of the year. Okay, thanks for that. Keep us posted.
The Metro have outdone themselves in the making up stories without bothering to back them up in any way stakes today with their report that Inter Milan are keen on signing Alex Song in January. They’ve framed the headline as if they do have a quote:
Alex Song ‘targeted for January Arsenal to Inter Milan transfer’
but they only seem to be quoting their own report. Tricksy. They claim that Claudio Ranieri is a ‘big fan’ of Song. Good for him. He can come along to the Emirates to cheer him on and buy a shirt with his name on the back for fifty quid if he wants. We’re not going to sell our first choice defensive midfielder in the middle of the season.
In funnier news, our on-loan superstar Nicklas Bendtner has endeared himself further to Sunderland fans by talking about how he wants to go somewhere a bit better next season:
I want to play Champions League, let me put it that way.
What are you saying? That you can’t do that at Sunderland?
Of course I can do that with Sunderland, but that means we have to put our skates on.
You could put on eleven specially commissioned pairs of Billy’s Boots, you’re not getting Sunderland in the Champions League this season. Sorry. Still, nice of you to talk up the chances of your new club. I guess that means you must be fairly happy there?
I had lots of offers this summer, but I chose Sunderland. There were some things which were more important at that time.
I’m sure the Sunderland faithful are ever so grateful that you passed up so many better opportunities.
Finally today, good news for all fans of not having Robin Van Persie crocked in a pointless international friendly with the news that Robin Van Persie will be rested for Holland’s pointless international friendly with Germany on Tuesday. Apparently Wenger, concerned that RVP might be reaching burn-out requested it and coach Bert van Marwijk agreed. Wow. Can it really be that simple? Maybe when his contract with the Dutch FA expires we can have him installed as coach of the England Under 21s.
Right, that’s that for today. Apologies for the brevity of the posts the last couple of days. Normal service will be resumed tomorrow as I get back to London. Of course that may not be such great news depending on your point of view.
Until then.
